Abstract
Kalimantan Timur Province (Combined of Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality) in January 2020 experience an inflation of 0.32 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.32 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.64 percent.
Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by the increase in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 1.42 percent; clothing and footwear group of 0.07 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel by 0.22 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.54 percent; health group of 0.04 percent; transportation group by -1.32 percent; information, communication and financial services group by -0.04 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0,47 percent; education group by 0.05 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0,00 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.65 percent.
In January 2020 out of 11 expenditure groups, 8 groups contributed to inflation, 2 groups contributed to deflation, and 1 group did not contributed to inflation in Kalimantan Timur. Expenditures group contributing to inflation, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0,388 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0,003 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuels by 0.053 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.22 percent; health group of 0.001 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0,008 percent; education group by 0,002 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.035 percent. The groups contributing to deflation were the transportation group by -0.178 percent; and information, communication and financial services by 0.002 percent.
If broken down by Municipality, in January 2020, Samarinda experienced inflation of 0.36 percent with CPI 103.78. While the Balikpapan experienced 0.27 percent inflation with the CPI 102.96. In January 2020 Samarinda Municipality calendar year inflation was 0.36 percent and year-on-year inflation was 1.76 percent. While inflation in the calendar year of Balikpapan was 0.27 percent and year-on-year inflation was 1.49 percent.
From 12 CPI municipalities in the Kalimantan Island region during January 2020, 10 cities experienced inflation and 2 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sintang at 1.10 percent with CPI of 108.42 and the highest deflation occurred in Tarakan of -0.07 percent with CPI of 103.89.
