Abstract

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one of the important economic indicators that can provide information about the development of the price of goods / services paid by consumers. The CPI calculation is intended to determine changes in prices of a fixed group of goods / services that are generally consumed by the public. Changes in the CPI from time to time illustrate the level of increase (inflation) or the rate of decline (deflation) of goods / services of daily household needs. The increase or decrease in the price of goods / services has a very close relationship with the purchasing power of money owned by the public, especially those with fixed income. The level of change in CPI (inflation / deflation) that occurs, naturally reflects the purchasing power of money used by the community to meet their daily needs. The higher the inflation, the lower the value of money and the lower purchasing power. This publication contains a series of Consumer Price Index data for 2000, broken down by several commodity groups.
