Deflation in August 2025

BPS–Statistics Samarinda Municipality recorded a month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation of 0.19 percent in August 2025. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined from 108.55 in July 2025 to 108.34 in August 2025. On an annual basis, year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation stood at 2.02 percent, while calendar-year (year-to-date) inflation was 1.58 percent.

The expenditure group contributing most to monthly inflation was education, which recorded inflation of 1.64 percent, contributing 0.07 percent. The personal care and other services group experienced inflation of 1.04 percent, contributing 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, the household equipment, tools, and routine maintenance group posted inflation of 0.37 percent, contributing 0.01 percent in August 2025.

On an m-to-m basis, commodities driving inflation included mackerel/scad, tuition fees at academies/universities, shallots, rice, and tuna/scad. Conversely, commodities contributing to deflation included air transportation, tomatoes, cayenne pepper, and gasoline.

Year-on-year, commodities contributing to deflation were air transportation, broiler chicken, gasoline, cayenne pepper, powdered detergent, and green beans. Meanwhile, commodities contributing to inflation included gold jewelry, rice, mackerel, ground coffee, and shallots.


Room Occupancy Rate of Star-Rated Hotels Declines

The room occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in Samarinda Municipality in July 2025 was recorded at 60.43 percent. This figure represents a 7.22-point increase compared to June 2025, but an 18.15-point decrease compared to July 2024. From July 2024 to July 2025, the highest ROR was recorded in September 2024 at 86.34 percent, while the lowest was in March 2025 at 37.51 percent.

The average length of stay for guests at star-rated hotels in July 2025 was 1.54 days, up slightly from 1.53 days in June 2025. However, this figure fell by 0.32 points compared to 1.86 days in July 2024.

For foreign guests, the average length of stay in July 2025 decreased by 0.50 points from the previous month to 2.14 days, while the average length of stay for domestic guests increased by 0.01 points to 1.53 days. Compared to July 2024, the average length of stay for foreign guests rose by 0.12 points, while that of domestic guests fell by 0.32 points.


Passenger Numbers Across Several Modes of Transportation Decrease

BPS–Statistics Samarinda Municipality reported that in July 2025, the number of departing domestic air passengers reached 35.98 thousand, a 4.50 percent decrease compared to July 2024. Meanwhile, the number of arriving domestic air passengers was 33.80 thousand, a 24.11 percent decrease from the same period last year.

A decline was also observed in domestic sea transportation. The number of arriving sea passengers was recorded at 15.50 thousand, down 20.89 percent compared to June 2024. In contrast, the number of departing sea passengers reached 12.84 thousand, marking a 10.79 percent increase compared to last year.

On a month-to-month basis, in July 2025, departing domestic air passengers increased by 15.93 percent, while arriving domestic air passengers grew by 14.36 percent compared to June 2025. In domestic sea transportation, the number of arriving passengers rose by 2.18 percent, while departing passengers declined by 23.57 percent over the same period.
