Getting to Know the Crop Cutting Survey

March 11, 2025 | BPS Activities

The agricultural sector plays a crucial role in Indonesia's economy. Within this sector, the food crop sub-sector, which includes rice and secondary crops, holds significant strategic importance in meeting the food needs of the Indonesian population. Given the vital role of the food crop sub-sector, accurate and up-to-date information on food crop production is essential. One of the key data points required for calculating food crop production is yield per hectare (productivity), which is routinely collected in each sub-round through the Crop Cutting Survey.

The Crop Cutting Survey aims to
  1. obtain information on the productivity of rice commodities and other supporting factors, such as planting methods, planting systems, pest and disease control (OPT control), and other relevant data; and
  2. implement an online data collection system with integrated survey management, covering data collection, validation, monitoring, and sub-segment sampling.
The survey employs computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) through the Fasih application. For rice commodities, observations are conducted using subsegments from the rice area sample frame (KSA).

The KSA-based observation is implemented in all districts and cities across Indonesia, following a three-subround schedule: Subround I: January–April; Subround II: May–August; and Subround III: September–December. This structured approach ensures comprehensive and reliable data collection, supporting informed decision-making in the agricultural sector.
